Laura DeWald, BS, LMBT is licensed in both North Carolina and Maryland in therapeutic massage and bodywork and been in private practice for about 28 years. She graduated from the University of Virginia ('79) with a civil engineering degree and where she also competed in cross-country and track & field as a middle distance runner. Laura's passion for running is what led her to the healing arts and exploring alternative healing modalities in order to maintain her competitive edge and heal quickly from repetitive use injuries. Over the course of her competitive running career, Laura qualified for three Olympic Trials in the marathon event and was fortunate to be selected for several USA teams in international competition. In recent years she enjoys the adventures of trail running and ultramarathons.
Laura attended the Health Enrichment Center ('93), a 1000 hour program in therapeutic massage specializing in sports massage. Since then she has trained in many additional studies giving her the skill set to address many types of conditions. Some of her additional studies and trainings include: deep tissue therapy, myofascial release, facilitated stretching, muscle energy techniques, scar release, lymphatic drainage, orthopedic cupping, joint mobilization and orthobionomy, zero balancing, Kinesio taping, and gua sha. Her integrative approach blends a wide variety of manual therapy techniques and modalities to deliver a truly effective method of healing.
Laura's life-long interest in sports, recreation and fitness, and healthy living nurture her therapy skills. In addition to opening a new practice in Carrboro, NC, she is excited to be spending more time with her husband enjoying many hobbies and outdoor activities they share including trail running, hiking, kayaking, cycling, and yoga.
